“How high can you fly?” is a question that we’re often asked. The answer really depends on the location but in most cases we can fly up to 400 FT. That is the maximum altitude that drones are allowed to fly (in the U.S.) as per the laws set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The 400 FT limit applies to all drone operators regardless of whether or not someone is flying for recreational, educational, or commercial purposes. In some cases there may also be no fly zones or lower height restrictions in place. For example, we can usually obtain a permit to fly our drone next to an airport but there is sometimes (not always) a condition that we must keep it to a lower altitude. Drones are also not allowed to fly in national parks or over a controlled airspace such as a stadium or military compound.
Even though the drones that we use have capabilities to fly much higher than 400 FT, we must always follow the rules to ensure a safe operation. All of our drones are registered aircraft and every single flight is recorded. We also hold UAS pilot certification which allows us to fly a drone for commercial purposes.
